My car was broken into today, although to be honest "broken into" is not the correct phrase since I probably left the car unlocked, as I am want to do. Bottom line...my car was messed with last night/this morning. I went out to my car this morning to leave for work and there were three CDs on the ground outside my car--which I thought was odd--and when I got in the car, there was stuff strewn about.
I'm thinking it was probably just kids but seriously, even if they are not honest-to-goodness criminals, my car must be a complete disappointment. The above-noted items, the ones missing from my car, are probably the items of greatest value. Although, I admit that I am a bit confused by their taking the owner's manual. It was in a little case, but it's not like it was a special little case, it was the one that came with the car.
They will probably be very disappointed in the iPod. It was the first version of the Shuffle and since I tuck it into the waistband of my running shorts, I think perhaps it has been exposed to a bit too much sweat over the years, and it regularly goes on the fritz and deletes all but one and a half songs--and almost invariably it is my least favorite one and a half songs.
Oh well. Maybe this will teach me to lock my car in the future.

You could always park your car in that soon-to-be-condemned-eyesore you call a garage...or so I've been told. I park my car in my townhouse's tuck-under garage all the time.
Did I mention that I live in a townhouse now. I'm not (no longer) one of those sorry guys who lives for decades in the same 1-room apartment.
Oh, and speaking as a technical writer here, never underestimate the value of a well-written manual. I wouldn't be surprised if it commands a hefty price on the tech writer black market.
Or, you could park your care in your yet-to-be completed awesome new garage complete with underground tunnel/wine cellar leading to your Schnuffy infested family room. That is the best plan of all!
Oh...you two are such comedians.
Since I am not so special that I have a nice, clean, non-condemned tuck-under garage, my options are to park on the street and risk houligans rummaging through the crap in my car, or parking in my mouse-infested, publicly identified eye-sore of a garage (which is sporting a fresh coat of paint, though) and risking a family or two of mice nesting in the seat cushions.
Since I am up to my eyeballs in furry animal annoyances, I will continue to opt for the houligans.
It's true that it was a well-written and well-organized owner's manual. I used it a few time to change the clock and program the radio.
Now that I think about it, I should double-check the clock and radio...it would be evil-minded genius of them to change the time, delete my radio settings AND THEN STEAL THE MANUAL!...They were probably sitting outside my house watching, hoping to see me pull my hair out in frustration while trying to reset everything without the aid of the manual!
I foiled them. I didn't even look at the clock or turn on the radio.
You may say that you foiled their evil plan to see you pull out your hair readjusting the clock and radio, but I suspect that they gave up out of frustration because they broke into your car a couple weeks ago and you just noticed it the other day.
Oh Tess that is awful!!! Some friends of ours had their car broken into last month. Unfortunately, they stole a cell phone, GPS, and the typical spare change, etc. Not the owners manual. . . although I wonder if the thieves thought maybe you had money stashed in there??
I hope those hooligans get what's coming to them! Boo.
Ahhh, Tess. You have a true gift, for even a tale of theft is a deligthful break in the day. This reminds me of the time my sister had her car stolen, driven all night, and left back in our front yard, dirty and out of gas.
Instead of locking your car, perhaps you should start letting Schnuffy spend the night there...maybe tie an old iPod to the collar and hope for the best!
Ahhh... I like Mike's idea! Excellent!
Of course, the car will have to be condemned afterwards.
